On April 16th, electricity from multiple provinces and regions including Gansu, Hubei, Hunan, Shaanxi, and Ningxia was "shipped" to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with a maximum transmission power of 1.1 million kilowatts throughout the day and a cumulative transaction volume of 16.79 million kilowatt-hours. This can meet the daily electricity demand of approximately 2 million ordinary households, providing strong support for regional price stabilization and supply guarantee through market-oriented means.

This transaction, jointly conducted by China Southern Power Grid and State Grid, involves the simultaneous implementation of spot and medium- and long-term electricity trading across operational regions. It innovatively adopts a model of "medium- and long-term support with spot supplementation", fully leveraging the role of the unified national electricity market in optimizing resource allocation. It represents an important practice of cross-regional joint guarantee and supply of electricity.

Since April, the southern region of China has exhibited characteristics of early summer onset and higher temperatures, with electricity load and consumption in Guangdong and Hainan, both within the operational area of the China Southern Power Grid, experiencing continuous increases. Notably, the maximum power load in Guangdong surpassed 130 million kilowatts 15 days earlier than the previous year.

"Through the joint operation of the two major power grids, short-term spot trading can flexibly support peak demand for electricity, achieving optimal allocation of power resources across the country," said He Shizhi, Senior Manager of the Spot Market Department at the China Southern Power Grid Dispatch and Control Center. Since the beginning of this year, in order to enhance the resilience of power supply, China Southern Power Grid has collaborated with the State Grid to continuously improve the cross-grid operation area trading coordination mechanism and explore market-oriented solutions.

It is reported that from April 15th to 16th, the Guangzhou Electricity Trading Center, in collaboration with the Beijing Electricity Trading Center, successfully organized medium and long-term electricity trading across the power grid business areas from Hunan to Guangdong. It is expected that from April 25th to 30th, Jiangcheng DC will deliver electricity to Guangdong at full capacity, with a maximum daily electricity transmission of 120 million kWh, precisely matching Guangdong's electricity demand.
